Underground Fossils was an indie rap focused blog run by myself (Dimxsk) and by Trylemma, who passed August 3rd, 2024 from liver failure of unknown origin at the age of 34. We mostly posted week or twice weekly, the bulk of which were rare rips we made, found on old blogs, he acquired through his insanely broad connection to the scene, etc. We did all we could to make sure we didn't post stuff that (1) You could still reasonably buy from the artist directly, (2) You could reasonably buy secondhand for cheap, (3) You could download easily elsewhere, (4) The artist(s) asked us not to for any reason. Being involved in this blog was some of the most fun I ever had, even if at times it was time consuming, challenging or intimidating (having a readership). It was the product of one of the best friendships I've ever had. If I could say one last thing, it's to encourage all of you: if you have the time and desire, make your own UGF. Find a friend who loves this shit like you do and build it together. It will bring you incredible joy, enhance your connection to this amazing community, and change your life in unexpected and exciting ways. I know it did mine. Love you all!

Onry Ozzborn - Duotvpe Revamped (2016)

Premier and Guru.  Lateef and Lyrics Born. Ceschi and Factor. Mike and Jamie. Peanut butter and jelly. Grape jelly. And Dimxsk and Trylemma. Yeah it's about to be one of those posts.

Anyway what was that? You're probably thinking I clicked here to download this dope Onry Ozzborn remix album and now I gotta read more nonsensical shit from Dimxsk. But this particular download has a history.

Flash back to 2016. I had just recently acquired the means to rip analog albums onto digital files and was loving it. Like many of you I have built quite a collection of free lathes, exclusive physical only tapes and OOP vinyl just to have it without the means to easily listen to it.

So I was stoked about my newfound ability to share rare shit, and this album was my very first rip and very first share. I went onto a C-Box somewhere and basically asked who wanted it, and one of those folks was Trylemma.

So essentially this album is what led to the collaborative effort that is UGF, with T mainly handling the acquisition side of things and myself handling the ripping. I think it's led to some very exciting media being preserved and allowed to circulate freely to those of us who were too young to appreciate it when it dropped and then vanished forever, or those of us who just want to listen to super indie rare music on an iPhone.

Seeing it up here finally is pretty cool. I've been holding it back because a) it's really cool b) and I wasn't too sure how Fake Four Inc. might feel about it being out there. If they'd prefer just let us know and we'll take it down.

But this album is pretty damn awesome. The remix of "Flee the Colony" in particular is IMO IIRC even better than the original, and the exclusive Ceschi track is one of his dream pop masterpieces.

There's tons of good stuff on here, including the original tape hiss in 320 kbps glory! Enjoy friends and thanks for continuing to follow us on this journey.

Kublakai - The Change (2006)

I can't believe we've never posted this one before but it looks like we haven't. The Change is Kublakai, a NW cat who in my opinion distinguished himself with a fairly solid songwriting ability and singing chops on his work the The Let Go rapping over some familiar beats. At least one is VERY familiar.

Enjoy!

Breaking Ground: Enve - Autobiography (2011)

Wow, can't believe it's my turn to do this again. Time sure is flying lately what with the stress and the stress and also the stress, who knows by the time you read this the politicians might have managed to manufacture a global financial meltdown. But that's when we need music the most, am I right?

Trylemma actually gave me this one before, which was fortunate because it gave me the opportunity to listen to it two times separated by a few years and I think I've got some intelligent type thingys to say about Enve's music. The album, Autobiography is really a fascinating piece of work for several reasons which I will go into in a bit. It is also really pretty damn good. I enjoyed it a ton both times around, and both times around was motivated to seek out more from this guy and his crew "Groove Movement" as in "got the new blueprint" to paraphrase. And both times around I recovered nothing. Looks like he retired following Autobiography (with the exception of some stuff he sent to T later on that apparently wasn't the same and never dropped) and this is it.

The dude in question is claiming on Bandcamp to be from Minneapolis, but also mentions a home in Eugene on "The First Chapter" (excellent track) and has features from NW dudes. I will say right off the bat if you liked Atmosphere (or still do, maybe because your doctor needs to lower your trazodone) and related you will like this. Enve clearly draws influence from that pseudo-emo, sad sexual scene that gave us Slug, Sage, Sadistik and stuff. He's got a number of songs on here about relationships, mental health struggles, music, etc. Nothing especially groundbreaking. So let's do some specifics.

For one thing, it is SO easy to dismiss this guy and his music based on several superficial things that are immediately evident. First we've got this name, Enve. So another dude with a misspelled name that's a random word and probably has no real connection to his music. It's like putting a "The" in front of some plural noun (The Protractors, The Spoons, The Noodles) as a band in the aughts. Fucking stop it. Alternate spelling was edgy and made a statement when most of us were in diapers, and now its just more of the same. Then we've got this album title. Wow. How DID he come up with that?! It's the most original title since Latyrx gave us The Album. Also the artwork I would be willing to bet was scrounged up somewhere and appropriated for the album. I could be wrong, but it looks pretty damn generic to me.

The good news is though that if you overlook that stuff you find a serious diamond in the rough. Enve has a fantastic voice that he makes great use of, giving us both solid head nodding bangers and emotional, melody driven songs that are catchy, fun, powerful and just damn dope. Imagine if Demune could sing, slowed it down a bit and did a bunch of songs in the vein of Atmosphere and you might have some idea of what he's about purely from a sonic level.

Another thing that makes this a winner is the production. Man these beats are the type of fire I was always aiming for during my short lived career as a rap artist. We've got a lot of acoustic guitar and strings coupled with atypical percussion made use of in clever ways (pretty sure that's glass breaking on "The First Chapter" where more logically a cymbal crash might have gone, and that muted snare that drives "Without a Map" is serious ear crack. Whoever did these beats (and we get one or two names, some relative unknown calling himself Sapient?) was a true music fan and it shows in sample choice and the way they are compiled and reshuffled.

Finally, it is truly notable how dynamic and all encompassing this album is. In thirteen tracks we've got posse cuts, love songs, travel songs, depression songs, music songs, all featuring different lyrical stylings, different BPMs, wildly different song structures, different genres (not quite folk rap but definitely flirting with it in places). Autobiography is a truly ambitious, lovingly crafted, genuinely felt and meticulously crafted (if unfortunately named lol) album that pays homage to indie rap and all it can do while still managing to make truly listenable songs with replay value even a decade later.

Thanks for this one Trylemma, and Enve sorry for clowning on the name and album title, this shit is solid as all hell.

Barfly of Oldominion - I've Been Worse (2007) [+ Notes Section]

Today's post is a filler from a request I got on Discogs from Vims: Barfly's "I've Been Worse" album from 2007. (We'll also now occasionally be having a little "Notes Section" at the end of posts whenever seen fit to drop miscellaneous things.)

Barfly is one of the most productive members from the Oldominion crew. He's a core member in groups Candy's.22, Saturday Knights, Big Kids Run, and Leather Tuscadero. He's released projects with Onry Ozzborn, Graves33, and Mr. Hill. He produces under the moniker Floods, and he's even dropped a full length novel (in addition to various zines and poems.) Even so, 2007's "I've Been Worse" is really his only official solo album yet. A quick look around the net revealed that it no longer seems to be available to buy anywhere online, so I figured it could be documented here.

I've always loved Barfly's sound. His punk rock background, side of the mouth sarcastic delivery, and penchant for great complementary production makes him one of the most unique artists out of the PacNW - and this album really puts that on display. Features include Onry Ozzborn, Snafu, and NyQwil.

And for those who want to keep up to date, Barfly has dropped a new EP this year entitled "A Light In The Dark" which is currently for sale exclusively on Concuss Creations HERE.

I've Been Worse

Notes:

Today is once again Bandcamp Friday (it looks like Epic hasn't ruined things yet?) so be sure to support the artists that have them. I'm personally looking forward to today's new releases from Awol One/Id Obelus/Rove ("Fresh Air EP,") Jade River/Beond of Acid Reign ("Conquest Part 3,") Billy Woods/Kenny Segal ("Maps,") Five Fingers of Funk ("Portland Say It Again,") and Buck 65 ("Super Dope,") You can also head over to Fake Four's Bandcamp and pre-order Factor Chandelier's new album "Moving Like A Planet."

RIP to HelloLA records - they put out some of the best looking cassettes and overall artwork over the years. Bertrand is now working with Adeem in a new label called "Echo Finch." They recently dropped a new album from Rain entitled "The And // Chapter 2," with features from Open Mike Eagle, Onry Ozzborn, John Robinson, Moe Pope, Latrell James and more HERE

If you were a high tier member in the Fake Fouragers program last year, be sure to check that you got the new vinyl fossil from Ceschi - an exclusive 12" record filled with new music exclusively for subscribers. Word is, his final Ceschi project, "Bring Me The Head of Francisco False" will also be released exclusively on vinyl for those who pre-ordered the Ceschi/Factor trilogy.

Anyone else miss the blogs of yesteryear? Shout out to Beetbak, This Is For The Hustlers, Record Science, Ludz, Thirdman, and obviously the great GhettoTyylit! Hoping for a new Til Infinity post soon!

James Barrie - Samsquash (2013)

It's free music Friday again at UGF, so here's a goodie from Los Feo Face and Grimm Image Records dopesmith James Barrie aka Nabahe. This guy is an expert at dropping gritty ass lyrical content over interesting and unusual production.

Unfortunately his work has become very difficult to locate and his old label basically took all it's music underground forever, so I believe you can only get this album here ATM. Aren't you glad you tuned in today??

3NP! feat. Smoke - Council of the Wise (1999)

Here's a quick download since Trylemma's busy this week. He already shared some 3NP! bangers so I'll give myself a break on the descriptions. Difficult to locate fossil. Smoke of Oldominion. Northwest hip hop. OD's Christian roots (still good for non-Christians like myself)

Enjoy!

Graves 33 - The Cost of Living in Section Hate (2011)

I was just talking to someone about Graves 33 and realized that this album is pretty much the ideal fossil for a Friday, especially a Friday holiday (happy holidays all!). In my humble opinion Graves 33 epitomizes everything great about the indie rap scene. He's amazingly talented both on the mic and behind the boards. He's a true artist who is just addicted to creating not just music but visual art as well, and he is highly conscious of his platform, always respecting his audience and doing his best to do good (this is pretty damn cool right here) while keeping his subject matter interesting, intelligent and dope as hell. It may be noted right here that I think he's one of the most talented folks working in the indie rap game at the moment. One man's opinion.

The Cost of Living in Section Hate, as mentioned on Trylemma's Cost of Living post is a bit of a compilation consisting of that album and Section Hate (lol no way), spruced up (basically remixed almost entirely, I have Cost of Living and most of Section Hate (but not all, if anyone has a full length rip of this PLEASE please hit us up lol) and I can tell you this album contains mostly unheard material. The production here is top notch, with some beautiful guitar work by Graves' father Randy Hansen and the rapping is confident and fresh with conscious topics and a laid back cool that is Graves' trademark.

Enjoy The Cost of Living in Section Hate!

New Music: WD4D - The Wrap Vol. 2

Today's new one comes via WD4D and his new EP, "The Wrap Vol. 2!"

Most of you probably know WD4D best for his time in the West Coast underground in the late 90s/early 2000s, putting out songs with the likes of Awol One, Matre, Bukue One, Maleko, Existereo and more. You might not know, however, that he's still at it - nowadays focusing mainly on purely instrumental music.

"The Wrap Vol. 2" is the second installment in WD4D's Christmas series, quickly constructed Christmas instrumentals to fit the season. For those in need of some cheer this season, check it out!

Estrella - The Good Mixtape (2007)

Happy Black Friday! For those of you outside America, in the US today is the day after Thanksgiving which kicks off the Christmas shopping season. This involves time honored and cherished traditions like assaulting retail workers ears with brainless Christmas music, the Slow Shopper Curb Stomp and my personal favorite, ye ol' filling up of the inbox with spam offers from stores you made single specific purchases at 15 years ago and always forget about until this special day rolls around again. For example, did you know that "Careless Whisper Garden Gifts" is having a 75% off sale on all carrier oils?

In all seriousness I'm writing this on Thanksgiving, which as many Americans become more sensitive to the history and feelings of others is becoming a more and more complicated holiday. I'm taking some time today to think about the people who lived where I'm writing this before they were systematically removed through violence, systemic racism and disease. Maybe I can view this holiday more as an opportunity to be thankful for the fact that despite that we have a very diverse country, as opposed to the opportunity to be thankful that a few white people didn't starve to death and celebrated it through a massacre. Hopefully that's not too preachy. It is, at least, sincere on my end.

Speaking of positivity (sort of), today's share is from Bellingham, WA's own Estrella, a collaborative effort between Taybot and Dusk, currated by DJ Seawa. As usual I know very little about these folks but a quick search turned up a MySpace with an article that I think sums up nicely why they fit into what I'm talking about today. I've included that screenshot in the download because it's a well written article that sums this up nicely.

So enjoy The Good Mixtape's good vibes, and stay safe out there this holiday season!

Akil (of Oldominion) - Storybox All Stars (Unreleased)

Akil wasn't the most obscure member of the OD, but he was certainly not the most famous. With little known credits to his name, most indie rap fans probably just mistook him for the Jurassic 5 rapper whenever they saw him. Luckily, Akil's shelved rough album, "Storybox All Stars," has been recently uncovered for our listening pleasure!

Akil was mainly a spoken word artist (originally from the Southwest I believe.) Unlike many spoken word artists, however, he knew how to incorporate his lyrics with the beats, as made evident by "Storybox All Stars." The album was produced in full by Smoke M2D6 and the atmospheric soundscapes really fit Akil's style well. The album was set to drop at some point but never did due to the hustle and bustle of life (no album art.) It's now finally out in the world however thanks to a lowkey Smoke drop.

Just FYI, I omitted two of the tracks included as there is a chance this may officially drop sometime in the distant future. Enjoy!

New Music: Quiz Ten - Prescription Handbills

So Pen Thief Records is absolutely killing it lately. It's been a bit scary how much their catalogue aligns with what my perfect roster of artists would look like, and that manages to encompass quite a wide variety of musical styles from Nolto the pioneering Prairie rapper to Quiz 10 aka K.Clifton, a man who sorta single handedly perfected vampire sludge rap.

Prescription Hand Bills is not a new album. In fact it's probably almost two decades old. I actually had a digital copy of it already and was eventually going to throw it up here for ya'll but Noblonski beat me to it. Apparently this was never officially released, and pretty much existed as a few physicals including one in the possession of p.WRECKS (another pretty much amazing sludge vampire). I don't know what year it comes from, but from the sound and comparing it to other old Quiz albums like Lampin' and Audible Captions I'd say it probably originally dropped around 2006.

This album is great, and big ups to Pen Thief for making it widely available. We find Quiz perfecting his production (which would later prove dope as hell, click the tag to check out a newer release of his), opting for dusty boom bap but still a very laid back sound as opposed to his newer dark cloud trap beats. This older sound is very preferable to me though, but to each their own.

His gruff voice and lyrical delivery are also worth noting, and are starting to really shine on this release. We find Quiz building the persona and style he displays on The Alligator Turtle EP, tackling drugs, music and magic in a inpenetrable thicket of poetry and stream of conscious ramblings.

Basically this album is everything I look for in a fossil. It's great to see this new label putting dusty gems like this into the world, and I'm totally stoked to see what they got in store for us next.

Get Prescription Handbills, a lost release from K.Clifton aka Quiz Ten right here on the format of your desire, only from the demonstrably awesome Pen Thief Records...

Filkoe - Shooting Stars (2009)

Here's something weird. Basically my girlfriend insisted I get a haircut tonight and I already had this one uploaded for some reason.

This one is not for everyone. This is barely rap. It's barely music in a lot of places. Mostly it has value as a collectors item for people like me who occasionally enjoy Filkoe's work and as a result want to collect all of it.

If you've heard any of the elusive releases by Dug Yuck, this is what you're getting on this release. High pitched sing songy rapish vocals over field recordings and acoustic guitar. It's not a wonderful album but it's kinda fun in it's own way, and Filkoe is pretty cool on occasion. He manages to convey ominous dread while sounding like a clown in a funhouse. I guess that's not exactly rocket science though...

"Enjoy" Shooting Stars!

JFK (of Grayskul/Oldominion) - Anchor Head Chronicles (2000)

We have a treat for you today - JFK's "Anchor Head Chronicles" from 2000!

I had heard "legends" of the elusive "Anchor Head Chronicles" from my buddy, and OD encyclopedia, Donluc for years now. But I always assumed that if he couldn't have gotten his hands it, I had no chance. I eventually forgot about it until a couple months ago two separate people I've bought stuff from in the past brought up that they had a copy that they'd sell!

I was of course pleasantly surprised, to say the least, that after all this time, not one but two people had a grail. Then some roadblocks came into the picture. The first guy's daughter cleaned out his car (where the cdr was) and accidentally left the jewel case in the rain, causing the inserts to be thrown away. He thought he still had the cdr, but didn't know where it was. Luckily, the second guy had a sealed copy(!) that we successfully bought. Unfortunately, upon trying to rip it...the data was not recognized (by laptop, cd player, car player, anything.) This was likely the result of the poor quality cdr and/or the fact that a strong adhesive disc sticker was used at the disc art. I told the guy who I bought it from who then tried playing his personal copy - which had the same problem. From there, after a couple weeks of waiting, I finally heard back from the first guy who had found the cdr and who said he was pretty sure his copy played fairly well (despite lots of marks.) So, somehow, I managed to find a copy with mint inserts + a disc that didn't work and a copy with no inserts + a disc that did work!

When I got the second disc, however, I could only rip part of the cdr. The first two tracks didn't work for me. That's when I sent it off to ripping expert Dimxsk who successfully got the first two tracks to work!! So we have a full rip for you today.

So what exactly is this thing? Well, it's not really a full album. There's only 9 tracks. And it's not really even a solo project. JFK is on each track, but it comes across more as a promo release for Oldominion as a crew. The release date is 2000 and the insert promotes Oldominion's "One" (which also dropped in 2000,) so I'm guessing that this was some sort of very limited run, likely tour-only, promo release that JFK put together. The "label" is Veastvick, which is the name that Onry used for his debut "Knightingale" release. Unlike the official version of "Knightingale," however, this is not a professionally pressed CD. It's a cdr of lesser quality than the old MP3.com cdrs that Oldominion members used to sell. But it did come shrinkwrapped lol!

Anyhow, seven of the nine tracks are actually available elsewhere: "Hendrix" and "No Pain" are available on Oldominion's "Vol. 1," "Nnetwerk" and "Just Ain't Got It" are available on Oldominion's "Vol. 2," "Train of Thought" is available on Oldominion's "Vol. 3," and "Screaming In The Wind" is available on Oldominion's "One." "Replacement Killers" is available on Oldominion's "Book of Fury" (and the crew's "Zero" release,) but this version has a slightly extended instrumental.

Luckily, two of the tracks are, to my informed knowledge, exclusive to this release. And as fate would have it, they're not only the two best tracks on this thing, but also two of the best tracks I've heard from JFK. The first is "The Kite," a solo track produced by Zebulon Dak. The second is called "Paracite Eve," produced by Onry Ozzborn and featuring Onry and Snafu alongside JFK. Both tracks are melancholic introspective tracks and really display the skill of these guys even at the early stage. It's a shame the tracks never got a proper release.

So without further yada, here is the rip. It is rough at times due to the cdr quality (plus scratches,) but it's more than listenable. Enjoy!

Demons in Disguise / Cheap Meat Suits - Selections from Demons in Disguise / Dark City (2008 / 2010)

Sorry for the late post today, Trylemma is out of town and I didn't know he wouldn't be able to post something. Just got home from work to his note. So, since I already uploaded this stuff for a homie I figured why not publish it for everybody.

For background go to my K.Clifton post. This is dark, abstract PNW hip hop. These are incomplete albums that I received from a different PNW rapper, this upload contains two collections of songs off of the albums Cheap Meat Suits by Cheap Meat Suits and Dark City by Demons in Disguise. Both are Quiz on the raps and I believe BLVCK CEILING on beats.

Enjoy, we'll get back to writing substantive posts soon enough!

By the way, does anyone subscribe to Weird Raps emails? He wrote a very interesting article on the "optics" of white journalists commenting on hip hop, which is relevant because I'm white and a blogger is a journalist in a world where you can buy a house off a video of you drinking juice while skating to Fleetwood. Anyway here's the article in question, and here's a link to subscribe, if you like UGF you'll definitely enjoy it!

Oh yeah here's the music I posted to share:

K.Clifton - Songs in the Key of Pessimism

Happy Tuesday, and what a Tuesday it is! Last go round I was complaining about the election, but now America has decided to rejoin the 21st century. Hooray for us! Now someone needs to sic the dogs on Donnie the Doofus so we can get some governing done, teach some folks the Webster definition of "justice" and hopefully not catch the plague.

Anyways, as usual I was running out of time so no review this week, but I think I've got just the thing for a time of year when the leaves are dying and it's getting dark at weird hours...

Songs in the Key of Pessimism is a work by an artist who you've probably heard before, but maybe didn't know. K.Clifton (fka Quiz10 or Quiz) is a producer and rapper from the PNW who utilizes slower sample based tracks to instill a sense of quiet foreboding and vague uneasiness. His laid back and deep vocal style also adds to the dark quality of his music, and he's utilized it in a variety of ways and with a variety of different producers and emcees.

This particular album is fairly new, and for some reason is no longer available. I personally like it because it is I believe one of his last albums before he took the plunge into trap music as one member of Wrists. Not a bad group per se, but this album right here is a great demonstration of his transition between the Quiz sound and what he does now, and I think it's remarkably effective.

Lush, dark and disturbing. Just something to get you excited for a weekend indoors worrying about catching the plague and dying...

I've got some more darkness coming for your Friday fossil as well. Just that kind of week... This next one is for fans of Papervehicle and affiliated cats.

New Music: Comunalien - Live At TOMFEST 1997

About a month ago, Nickels Hawkeye dropped a jewel on us with a recorded live performance dating back to 1997 from the legendary Comunalien!

Comunalien consisted of producer Nickels Hawkeye and rapper Rochester A.P. Rochester is perhaps best known for naming the Northwest collective, of which both he and Nickels were/are a part of, "Oldominion." He tragically passed in 1999, shortly before the collective released their album "One." The Comunalien duo never released anything official while Rochester was alive, but various tapes and cdrs kept their name out there, and various albums, post-Rochester's death, have dropped.

This live production was recorded in 1997 at TOMFEST, a Christian music festival (many members of the early versions of Oldominion identified as Christians to some degree - Comunalien was, for all intents and purposes, a "Christian group.") The sound quality here is very rough - the source is likely some bootleg that one of Nickel's buddies recorded from backstage. Even so, for big fans of Rochester, Comunalien, and Oldominion - it's a treat to hear him in a live setting such as this. We're given various (soon to be) album cuts, interactions with the crowd, and a couple things I haven't heard elsewhere before, which is always a bonus!

Lxor - Open Mic Galactic Nights 07 (2007)

Hey y'all. So today we have something truly out there from psychedelic weirdo and fast rapping New Cocoon-er Lxor, best known for his DMT and spirituality laden releases on that aforementioned label. Open Mic Galactic Nights 07 is a freestyle collection of his available briefly on Bandcamp but removed for some reason, and so it fits our requirements for a fossil.

This is actually a great release if only for the fact that it highlights the NWerner's chops as simply a dope rapper. While his official releases usually contain a lot of chanting, obscure references and odd noises, here Lxor is just basically rapping like a mad man over some accessible production, and very competently I might add. Includes contributions from Slew(age), a great rapper and producer in his own right, and Lil Jay and CNI, who I know nothing about.

Before I offer the link to download this, consider throwing down some cash on his official albums over here , they're completely unlike anything else out there, trust me.

Hungry Mob - It Is What Is Is (1996)

Today's upload is from Portland's (Oregon that is) Hungry Mob, 1996's "It Is What Is Is."

Hungry Mob was a pretty big local Hip Hop live band that was fronted by the great Mic Crenshaw. The crew probably first gained significant attention after being included on the "Western Conference All-Starz" compilation in 1997 alongside NW indie giants like Cool Nutz and Lifesavas. While Crenshaw has been a constant factor, the group has seen various lineups, including the addition of Oldominion/Sirens Echo member Toni Hill (though this release pre-dates her I believe.)

"It Is What Is Is" was a cassette only release, featuring 10 short tracks. The album definitely sounds of its time - very airy and jazzy with large G-Funk and reggae tinges. Those who like that sound should dig this for sure. And even back then, Crenshaw had great presence on the mic.

Peep the project below (and if anyone has leads on a physical copy of this, let me know!)

Mentors of the Aurora (Braille, ILLTripp & Ethic of Sandpeople) - The Unimportant Ones (1998)

Well folks, Trylemma is off in a third world country this week conducting a deal with some very sketchy fossil collectors in order to hook us up with the rarest specimens... Or he has to work, but I like my reason better so we'll go with that. Anyway sorry for the delay yesterday.

Therefore, UGF is happy to bring you The Unimportant Ones, a collaborative effort from a few of Portland's most important rappers (wait...) Ethic (yep) and Braille along with someone named ILLTripp as Mentors of the Aurora.

This album was a cassette that I ripped recently and haven't had a chance to listen through yet. I can tell you that sound quality is good, material is very dope with that early millennium 4 track flavor we all grew up on. Heavy on the spirituality for those who favor that, and competently produced with some very tight rhymes for the rest of us. Especially cool knowing how far these dudes have come in 20 years.

With that I'll keep it short and sweet, definitely let us know what you think of The Unimportant Ones. See you on Friday (tomorrow, but we're pretending it's Wednesday)!

Mathias - Da Prototype-Hype Superfluous EP

I'm taking you back up north this week with an obscure 30+ minute "EP" in the form of Mathias' "Da Prototype-Hype Superfluous EP."

Mathias is a part time Portland part time Bay Area rapper (and now aspiring actor?) who came up with the standard underground NW scene in the 90s and early 2000s. The EP is what you've come to expect from the NW in that era, slightly darker punchline heavy raps mixed with West Coast influenced deliveries. Features include My-G, Kable Roc, Shipwreck and Anaxagorus from Oldominion.

Mathias is still making music under "Mathias The Titanium" so if you enjoy this one, check out his newer stuff.

I remember digging in a dusty old box on the back floor in one of my favorite record shops in order to uncover this one. So enjoy!
